Our work is directly inspired by the Virgin and Child in Majesty in a shell niche from the entourage of Andrea Bregno (1418 - 1506) in the Bode Museum in Berlin. As the Berlin work was severely damaged during the Second World War, our sculpture once again allows us to fully appreciate this prestigious model. As the only other known example made after it, it therefore represents a significant addition to the rare corpus of Roman Renaissance Virgin with Child.
